Both products offer the same wool with the same properties. In the former, the wool is still attached to the hide. The latter is produced by shearing the wool from the sheep and, using XD Technology, knitting it into a high density pile- up to 1900 g/m2. This pile density is greater than that found in most sheepskins and lambskins.
Both products are machine washable, and the latter can be dried in the dryer- a major advantage for care givers.

HiTemp UR Medical Sheepskins have a very dense, 30 mm pile ( about 1.25"), producing remarkable pressure reduction, and moisture absorption. Sheepskins of this quality have rarely been seen outside Australia. UR means that these natural shape sheepskins have been tanned for increased urine resistance; making them the only Medical Sheepskins suitable for incontinent clients. HiTemp UR Medical Sheepskins:
HiTemp UR Medical Sheepskins and HiTemp Pressure Smart XD Overlays are ideal for clients who are confined to bed or wheelchair. They should be used 24 -7, for best protection against the development of bedsores and pressure sores. The wool fibres will absorb up to 33% of their dry weight in moisture without feeling wet. This moisture is rapidly wicked away from the skin surface, keeping the skin dry. Moist skin is more susceptible to bedsore development. Guaranteed for at least 50 wash cycles when washed in Woolskin.
Pressure Smart XD offers a new level of protection. Most sheepskins have a pile density of around 1000g/square metre. Pressure Smart XD has a pile density of up to 1900 g/square metre. This means that pressure reduction is improved.- see the pressuregram below:
The graphics above show a person sitting on 4 surfaces. The pressure was measured on each and is shown in the above 4 graphics. The bottom left picture shows that the sheepskin product (Original) is not as effective as the Pressure Smart XD as shown at the bottom right.
